    21 November 2016

    Blog post

The much-anticipated journey continues in Langkawi Art Biennale 2016. The all-encompassing theme in this coming event is called the ‘Exploration’. Moving forward with the ‘Migration‘ theme from the 1st biennale, participating artists will settle down and experience Langkawi in-depth. Artists would be exposed to new discoveries of multifaceted cultures and religions, an endless array of local food, varying lifestyle of the inhabitants, and even the tranquil nature of the countryside and natural beaches.

What an experience! To be part of this international art event was pretty surreal for me. This is the first time coloured pencil artwork were included and exhibited along with all other mainstream medium here in Malaysia.  It is a huge milestone for coloured pencil art in Malaysia and I hope it will open up a path and opportunities for more colour pencil artists locally and internationally.

First of all, this event is not

Seems like a long time since my last blog and this is the first time that I am blogging from my website.
After the exhibition with Faber-Castell Malaysia in April this year, I have been cooped up at home working on paintings for the Langkawi Art Biennale ‘Exploration” 2016 (LAB 2016), which will take place from the 16th – 23rd November 2016 in Langkawi, Malaysia.

LAB 2016 will be a milestone for me and also coloured pencil art, locally, if everything goes well. This exhibition really pushes my boundaries as a colour pencil artist as I have to produce paintings at the size from 24 x 24 inches (60 x 60cm) to 36 x 36 inches (91 x 91 cm) huge. A very big feat when using solely dry medium. Tough, but it is a good try.

All the complete paintings for LAB 2016 can only be revealed during

Finally the day of the much anticipated and awaited event has materialised.  This is Faber-Castell Malaysia first ever fine art exhibition in Malaysia and also the Asia Pacific region. All 35 fine art pieces were created exclusively from Faber-Castell’s “Art & Graphic” range by 12 selected contemporary artists based in Malaysia.

The planning of the exhibition took almost a year and all artists were given a period of 4 months to complete 3 pieces of artwork each last year. Once all work were completed and submitted, Faber-Castell Malaysia will then select the art work for the exhibition.

The exhibition was held from the 7th – 10th April at the Faber-Castell Kiosk in Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur and it continues on at the Artemis Art Gallery in Publika, Kuala Lumpur till the 1st May.

Initially, I was rather skeptical of an exhibition held in a public mall,

  • Coloured Pencil Art -Things are moving on…

It has been quite a hectic couple of months since I got home from my trip to the United States, attending the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) convention in Atlanta,GA. I have not been posting any work on social medias but it did not mean that I am not working.

Immediately after I got home, I received the news that I am one of the 12 selected local artists for the Faber-Castell Malaysia Inaugural Art Exhibition which will be held sometime in March 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. Faber-Castell Malaysia took the initiative to organise this art exhibition not only to amplify its brand image amongst art enthusiasts but also to highlight the pool of local artists that exist locally and also to provide local Malaysian artists a public platform to showcase their works. They aim to ultimately make this exhibition a highly anticipated annual event.

  • My ‘Colour Pencil’ adventure to the United States of America – 23rd Annual Colored Pencil Society of America International Exhibition, Atlanta, GA)

    Blog post

I really do not know how to describe my feelings when I walked into Double Tree Hillton Atlanta on the 29th July 2015, Wednesday where the 23rd Annual Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) convention was held.

I remembered registering myself at the CPSA meet and greet counter where I received my goodies bag and also my name tag and the minute the person behind the counter realised that I came all the way from Malaysia, she and her friends, who are the CPSA Atlanta DC107 Chapter,  gave me such a very warm welcome, I was blushing by then.

The set up in the Hospitality Suite, with so many ‘treasures’ was a sight to behold. Better than any art outlet I have ever been in Malaysia because it was all things colour pencil. I was like a kid in a candy store. There were so many freebies by sponsors and we were free to pick anything we

To travel 23 hours, going through 2 different time zones half way across the globe for a holiday with friends and family is quite a normal thing BUT to travel alone, meet and stay with people whom I only know through social media is an adventure!

Some say it is a risk I am taking, considering that I am already a 45 years old woman, adventure time should be way over. Now, how did this came about? Well, I can proudly say that it is all because of colour pencil art. Strange but true, because I live to tell….

The story begins with the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) where I am a member of since 2014. I have participated in their 22nd Annual CPSA International 2014 and was very fortunate to have my art work selected for the exhibition in Florida. After seeing all the photos of

  • The Fine Art of Colour Pencil Exhibition

    18 January 2015

    Blog post

The Fine Art of Colour Pencil exhibition was held in The ArtESpace www.theartespace.com, Straits Quay, Penang on the 23rd to the 30th of November 2014.

This exhibition was a collaboration between myself and Barbara Moore https://www.facebook.com/BarbaraMOOREart/,  a Canadian born artist currently residing on the Penang island.

Up till today, I still could not believe I did an exhibition of my art work in 2014. It was a very memorable and unforgettable experience because Barbara and I both organised the exhibition all on our own.

Barbara came up with the idea of doing an exhibition early 2014. When she suggested the idea to me, I was very reluctant because I was not at all prepared and the idea of doing an exhibition has not occurred to me. I have very limited pieces of art since I have only started in 2013 and I do not think that any gallery or art curator will be interested in
