  • A Fine Balance

    Blog post

Flowers are subjects that I rarely do.  Butterfly, this is a first.

I got a bit tired of the monochrome rusty metal parts(at the moment). I need to refresh. I want to use all those vibrant colours that I have. And also the black surface paper that I purchased quite some time back.

Armed with enthusiasm, I dragged my daughter along to the local butterfly farm, Entopia, just 10 minutes drive from my home. And guess what, since living here for over 10 years, it was my first time to that place and I fell in love with it.

This was done on a 244gsm, 54 x 39 cm (21.5 x 15.5 inches) Rasha, Takeo NT paper. The paper takes on the colours very well and it can really withstand the tremendous and multiple layering.

I also used all the best pencils that I have, Caran D’ache Pablos and Luminous for their luscious colors

  • It’s never enough..

    My collections.

Looks a lot but for me, it’s still not enough. Each pencil has it’s own distinguish character.

But to get my ‘dream’ set is way over my budget at the moment. One day…..

  • My 1st set of artist grade cp

    26 April 2013

    Blog post

So excited to have found this artist grade cp, they don’t come in cheap.

It cost me RM260.00 for 72 colours. Penang is not big city, in the whole Penang, only this old (really old) art supply shop have it. This shop ‘Nanyang Art supplies’ has been here for more than a decade. Typical of Penang folks, they don’t bother to do up the shop, it remains as crummy & stuffy, guess, like before, but yet the shop is always packed with people searching for stuff.

Anyway, they have only 1 set left, and it has been in the shelf for God knows how long, the print on the pencils are so faded even using a magnifying glass its difficult to make out name of colour! But hey, beggars can’t be choosers right? So ran off to the bank to get cash (they don’t take credit cards, imagine that!) grab the

  • The beginning of my art work

    26 April 2013

    Blog post

These are my initial introduction before color pencil art.

I was browsing around a bookshop one fine weekend and saw this set of Faber-Castel Sketching pencils. My mind starts to roll, hmm.. it’s been a while since I sketch, Why not start now? Next is to look for something to inspire me. Where to begin? How? Went to Art book section and lo & behold, found this ‘Sketching & Drawing’ set.

Initially, so afraid to begin, what to sketch???

Ransacked daughter’s room, full of photography magazine, she was crazy about camera @ that time, not anymore : (

Found this B&W picture and there you are, my 1st sketch.

  • A Blog, at last…

    25 April 2013

    Blog post

After all this years, I finally have a blog to write things that no one in my family wants to listen.

I guess it’s like talking to myself, using keypads. Of course, I wouldn’t know nuts about setting up a blog. This was set up by my ‘lovely’ daughter, ‘lovely’ because she is in her mid teen age (all mom out there with teenagers will know what I mean).

I have told her that I would like to start a blog and can she help me set it up? O.k. mom! she said, and that was like almost 2 months ago.

So, today, she finally ask me what happened to my blog page? So I told her I’m waiting for you to set it up. O.K. mom! And VOILLA!!! She did it. THANK YOU!!!! Patience pays off.

I will start posting my paintings tomorrow as it’s
